Once a child-bride, married with the intent to stop a blood-feud between rich and ambitious families in fourteenth century London, Isabella is now a young widow, a medieval Cinderella, tormented and blamed.

Seeking always to escape her grim destiny, she can do nothing but endure. But when her beloved son, Matthew, is torn away from her care, spirited somewhere into the country by her malicious in-laws, Isabella's stoic endurance turns to desperation. To save her son she will do anything, risk anything—even if it means she must lose the love of her life, the handsome, brave armorer Stephen Fletcher.

But Stephen is determined to help her. Though he’d thought to never love again, he has no choice when his Mistress Angel enters his life—and changes their destinies forever.

Mistress Angel edition by Lindsay Townsend Romance eBooks

Effortlessly weaving history into an engaging story, Lindsay Townsend has crafted another page-turner of a medieval romance in MISTRESS ANGEL.

For most of history, women had few, if any, choices, and most of them were heartbreaking. Ms. Townsend evokes the desperation of the abused Isabella as she tries, with Stephen's help, to rescue herself and her son from becoming pawns in her father-in-law's evil schemes.

Ms. Townsend writes such wonderful heroes and heroines. Although the deck was stacked against medieval women, her heroines not only endure, but thrive. I cheered Isabella's journey from victim to fighter. Stephen is a hero to die for--loyal, honorable, true, and gorgeous as well. Sigh.

The story also has wit. I especially like the nickname Isabella gives Stephen, and that he doesn't care for.

I kept flipping pages (figuratively) to see how the story would play out. While Ms. Townsend has packed a lot of history into the story, there's also more than enough romance for the most ardent romantic.

A truly wonderful story. Enjoy.

Mistress Angel edition by Lindsay Townsend Romance eBooks Reviews

Wow!! What an incredible writer this lady is. A weaver of words from olden times. I was very pleased with the storyline and how well it fed into itself throughout. Never a dull moment.
I always enjoy Ms Townsend's books and this one was no exception. I was drawn to the characters and absolutely love Isabella. I love enduring heroines. I would highly recommend this book.
What about "Mistress Angel" is uniquely special?

The medieval period city life becomes reality as the story unfolds. Isabella has been used first by her family then by her dead husband's family - she is a commodity to them.

The writing brought me into the city with it's dirty streets and how little value was placed on the life of a woman. Her young son is taken from her, she's pressed into servitude and she must choose between getting her son back and pleasing the local marriage prospects.

"Mistress Angel" is a journey through medieval London from the landscape to the characters Lindsay delivers. Raw emotions and agonizing struggles are included in the telling.

I also enjoy finding new phrases and words from the period in Lindsay's writing. She defines them and uses them as keys to her plot. I liken it to a treasure hunt, always something new in the next chapter.

Will Isabella get her son back? Will she find true love? All will be answered before the last word is read.

I hope you give "Mistress Angel" a look. Great writing, well developed plot and interesting characters, what more could you want in a story?
Isabella, the Medieval Period heroine in Mistress Angel evokes compassion as well as anger toward her abusers. At a time when women were often treated as no more than chattel, Isabella accepts her fate as a widow dependent on her deceased husband’s family. Forced into an abusive marriage at the age of twelve, pregnant at fourteen, and widowed before the age of eighteen, her only love is her four year old child, Matthew. Her evil in-law, Sir William, has kept the child from her and threatens his safety unless Isabella complies with his wishes. Her heart aches to see and hold her son and she will do anything to ensure is safety. When Sir William demands that she use womanly wiles to trap a new husband that will benefit their family, she agrees, hoping her compliance will allow her son to be returned to her.

To Isabella’s surprise she finds that Stephen, the man they have chosen for her, is handsome, honorable, and protective. Her hope in a new future is dashed, however, when Sir William realizes her attraction toward Stephen and demands she seek other men’s approval. A threat against her son’s life, forces her to concede.

Stephen has not forgotten his first meeting with the beautiful Isabella who he calls his Mistress Angel. In his attempt to find her, he discovers her desperate situation and Sir William’s treachery. He must convince Isabella to trust him with her life and her son’s destiny. Isabella is torn between her fear of the losing her son to her powerful in-laws and her desire to believe in Stephen’s promises.

Ms. Townsend has written a captivating novella with satisfying romantic elements that make it difficult to put down. We urge Isabella on as she struggles with heroic, life-altering decisions to save her child in an attempt to break free of her abusive in-laws and find the love she deserves.
Lindsay Townsend's novella Mistress Angel is another winner for me. The rich tapestry of medieval detail hooked me into the romance, and I wanted the story to keep going and going.

Heroine Isabella is living a life of misery in her late husband's family. A former child-bride, she'd failed to end the feuding between two powerful families and endured a marriage filled with physical abuse. Now her relatives have abducted her son and will only allow her to see him if she agrees to become the mistress of a man of their chosing.

Leading man Stephen, an armorer and a single parent to a young daughter, is captivated by Isabella, catching her when she falls from her gilded cage into the street. Pleased by Isabella's swift conquest, her relatives then demand she set her sights on someone else of higher rank.

Stephen rescues Isabella, learns the sordid story, and they journey to save her son. A final showdown pits her goldsmith relatives against the armorers, with Stephen winning the day, the girl, and his own happily ever after.

I enjoyed the rich characterization of Isabella's friend Amice. She brought another dimension to the story and I hope at some point the author will tell us Amice's story.
