"A Tony Hillerman/Patricia Briggs mashup that kept me turning pages faster and faster... I want more!" - Aimee Easterling, author of the Alpha Underground series.
A dark force is targeting a secret enclave of shapeshifters in the desert southwest, delivering them to grisly fates. Suspected of witchery and cast out of her human society, it's up to Ellery Chee, a lone coyote shifter, to stop this dangerous magician before her world is destroyed.
But Ellery will have to team up with other outcast magic-users to get the job done. It's a tall order to find witches and fae who are willing to come out of hiding to save the shifters. It's even tougher to convince Hosteen Sikaadii, an all-too-human detective, that Ellery is working for good, not evil.
Without Hosteen's help, she won't have a chance at stopping the slaughter. And she just might be the next shifter who's slated for a bloody end.
This is the first volume in a new urban fantasy series, and contains a cliffhanger ending. Don’t miss Book 2, Red Fire Glow, available now from your favorite eBook retailer.

I will admit to being skeptical at first, I was afraid this hero would be more like Mercy from P. Briggs series. I was delighted to see she is a trader not a shifter, which is very different and equally engaging. I like the addition of the Navajo culture too. This world is struggling with the division between typical humans and the 3 major magical classes of beings. Add in a reluctant hero investigating the death of a friend on the reservation and the disappearance of another in the first few pages and I had to keep reading.

Black Moon Sing An Urban Fantasy Novella of Shapeshifters vs Vampires The Turquoise Path Book 1 edition by L M Hawke Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
I found this book an interesting read that kept me reading. Started a little slow but got better, and I am purchasing the next installment. A different take an shifting, and I liked the Northern Arizona setting (but I wonder if the author really knows much about Flagstaff- it doesn't really get hot there, even in mid summer, by my lights).
I'm an old lady who reads every day & have for decades. This writer's voice is one of the best I've come across. If you can imagine linking with an animal and becoming one with their body you are gonna a get a kick of this book/novella, a compelling murder mystery. Only downside is that now I must buy the rest of the series. But it will be money well spent.
I was thoroughly mesmerised throughout the entire story. It definitely got and kept my attention. The author deftly wove Navajo beliefs and traditions with paranormal instances. I'm looking forward to the next book, and hope that the author will continue beyond the trilogy. You are warned before beginning to read that this ends with a cliffhanger. However, it is not a glaring one, and feels like a stand-alone. I highly recommend this series.
A nice blend of mystery and urban fantasy with a unique twist. Magic of the Navajo Reservation with a serious twist. With the dry elegance of a Leaphorn and Chee mystery thrown in. Based on just this first offering I've snagged all 3 volumes in the series and will be exploring the works in other genres.
Tasty!
A pleasant enough book. I was unsure about three stars (for the book) or zero stars (for the almost cliff-hanger), but finally decided in favor of three. This episode was finished, so it's not a true cliff-hanger.
I probably won't buy the next one ... but I rarely buy any books. If the next one is free, I'll definitely get it.
Interesting characters and storyline.
The romantic (I use the term loosely) relationship in the book was very thin. No real reason for any sexual tension other than "this guy is hot and here's here." In fact, given the main character's history, it would have made more sense for her to have to work through a lot more animosity to even be able to work with the Typ man.
That being said, the storyline was quite different from the typical detective/suspense story. I found it interesting and fun, a quick, easy read. I would read the second book in the series to find out more about the magical world of the characters.
This is a good story, plot fundamentals are interesting and I wanted to know what happens. Unfortunately, the book has a cliffhanger ending. The writing is a bit immature and doesn't flow well. I was not able to lose myself in the story. The writing kept getting in my way. This is a very short, easy to read book that should appeal to fans of a good paranormal story who want a quick read and don't feel a need for sophisticated writing. You can read it in an evening. At least for this book in the series No sex. Suitable for ya readers who can stand very mild curse words. No terribly graphic gore and only mild suspense. Be aware that this story does not conclude with this volume. You will need to go further into the series for a conclusion. 2 stars for writing and 3 stars for the premise of the story. I rounded up. Probably will not go further into the series myself.
